At Owenhouse Cycling, we believe in equipping ourselves with the best, and that’s why we proudly carry Patagonia mountain bike apparel.

Why Patagonia, you might ask? Well, let’s just say it’s more than just the fun designs and colors. Patagonia’s ethics are well known. It isn’t just a brand; it’s a movement, a commitment to sustainability, and a dedication to creating high-quality gear that stands the test of time.

Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia’s journey began with a love for the outdoors and a desire to protect it. Similar to their entire line of products, their mountain bike apparel mirrors this ethos, blending technology with eco-conscious materials.

We’re proud to stand by companies with a history of serving their communities. You probably remember that Owenhouse has also been around for a long time!

Owenhouse Cycling is part of the Owenhouse Hardware Company, founded in 1879. What started as a mercantile carrying all the goods a person of that time would need, including bikes, has since grown and expanded to become what is now Owenhouse Cycling and Owenhouse Ace Hardware.

Enough history for now. Let’s jump into the gear!

What are the preferred clothing brands for mountain biking?

We’re biased, of course, but we really do only carry the brands we love the most! Patagonia, Fox Racing, Troy Lee Designs, Pearl Izumi, and POC. These brands offer a range of options, from durable shorts and jerseys to protective gear like helmets, gloves, and goggles.

Is mountain bike specific clothing worth it?

Yes, mountain bike-specific clothing is definitely worth it. You’ll notice the difference in the durable fabrics the next time you take a corner too fast.

What clothing choices are must-haves for mountain bike newbies?

For mountain bike newbies, we recommend the following:

  1. Padded cycling shorts or bibs
  2. Moisture-wicking jerseys or shirts (stay away from cotton when you’re sweating)
  3. Mountain bike specific shoes
  4. Helmet
  5. Full-finger gloves

Can I wear my road biking clothes on the trail?

Absolutely! But…while road biking clothes can be worn on the trail, they may not provide the same level of comfort and durability as mountain bike-specific apparel. Also, most mountain bikers aren’t looking for the aerodynamic advantages that road riders are. Because of this, they can go baggy! Many riders prefer to use baggie shorts, loose jerseys, and flat pedals instead of spandex and clips.

Gear Up with Patagonia at Owenhouse Cycling

It’s time to think beyond flannel and fleece when it comes to Patagonia (although we do love their flannel and fleece!). Their collection of mountain bike apparel lives up to the hype of the gear you’re already familiar with. And, thanks to their commitment to quality, sustainability, and performance, you feel good about where your dollars are going.
